Forest restoration calls for accelerating the process of repairing and reforesting forests. It includes preserving and protecting remaining parts of the forest and increasing vegetation. The need for forest restoration arises due to destruction caused in forests by deforestation, imbalance in the ecosystem and other human activities. Extensive work towards restoration has been undertaken in the Western Ghats in India, due to the serious degradation of the forests in the region which preceded it. The current coverage of forests in India is 9%, which is far from the target of 33%. Restore our forests, restore the Earth.
